Wood Luck Design Children's Beds — Parents' Most Asked Questions

What wood are children's beds made from and are the materials safe for kids?

Wood Luck Design children's beds are crafted primarily from birch plywood, solid pine and oak, materials valued for their durability and natural origin. All materials used, including lacquers and paints, comply with European safety standards for children's products (EN 716) and finishes are free from harmful chemicals.

As Aleksander Tomasik, our Production Technologist & CAD Designer at Wood Luck, explains: 'Material selection is the first and most critical step in design. Every board and every lacquer is verified for VOC emissions before it reaches the production floor.'

Parents can therefore be confident that a Wood Luck bed does not emit harmful vapours and is safe even for the youngest children.

Which children's bed should I choose for a child aged 2–10 years?

When choosing a bed for a child aged 2-10, look for models with an adjustable length or protective side rails to prevent falls. Several Wood Luck Design collections offer exactly these features. For a two-year-old, a safety guardrail and low floor height are essential, while older children benefit from add-on storage drawers or a desk attachment.

As Weronika Tomasik, our Architect & Interior Designer at Wood Luck, advises: 'A bed that grows with the child is a long-term investment. Choose a model that, with minor modifications, works equally well in a four-year-old's room and a ten-year-old's room.'

Before purchasing, check the mattress dimensions (most commonly 160×80 or 180×80 cm) and whether the bed holds a valid EU safety certificate.

Are Wood Luck bunk beds safe and from what age can they be used?

Wood Luck Design bunk beds are engineered in accordance with EN 747, the safety standard governing bunk beds. Covering minimum guardrail heights and structural strength requirements. As recommended by this standard and child safety specialists, the upper bunk is intended for children aged 6 and over.

Jacek Prajsnar, Factory Director & Head of Production at Wood Luck, notes that 'every component of a bunk bed undergoes quality control on the production line. We test both the joint strength and overall structural stability under load.'

A sturdy ladder, solid guardrails on the upper bunk, and proper assembly in accordance with the instructions are equally important. Together, these features ensure that a Wood Luck bunk bed remains safe and reliable for many years.

How to furnish a small children's room with a bed, practical tips?

In a small children's room, the key is maximising vertical space. Wood Luck Design beds with built-in under-frame drawers or loft-bed versions allow toys and clothes to be stored without consuming extra floor area. A bunk bed is also worth considering. The lower level can double as a study or play zone.

As Inez Szarzyńska-Tomasik, Founder & Owner of Wood Luck Design, emphasises: 'When designing our beds, we always think about how they fit into the entire interior. Every model can be paired with a matching wardrobe, desk and bookcase from the same collection, achieving a cohesive look even in a small room.'

During arrangement, place the bed along a wall to keep the centre free for play, and coordinate furniture colours with a light wall palette to make the room appear larger.

Which mattress is best for a children's bed and what dimensions should I choose?

The most common mattress sizes for Wood Luck Design children's beds are 160×80 cm or 180×80 cm. Always check the exact dimensions in the product sheet before purchasing. For children up to around age 7, medium-firm foam mattresses work well, providing proper spinal support during periods of intensive growth.

For older children, pocket-spring or latex mattresses can be a better fit as they conform more closely to the body's shape. Regardless of type, the mattress must fit snugly within the bed frame, a gap larger than 3 cm between the mattress and the guardrail poses a safety hazard under EN 716.

Remember to air the mattress regularly and use a waterproof protective cover, especially during the early years of use.

How much does a wooden children's bed cost and is it worth paying more for higher quality?

Prices of wooden children's beds in Poland range from around 500 PLN for basic MDF models to over 3,000 PLN for fully customisable solid-wood premium constructions. Wood Luck Design beds sit in the premium segment — the higher price reflects the use of natural materials, hand-finishing and long product lifespan.

It is worth viewing the purchase as an investment: a sturdy bed made from solid wood or high-grade birch plywood serves a child throughout their entire childhood, can be passed on to a sibling, or resold — retaining its value far better than particleboard furniture.

As Tomasz Tomasik, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Wood Luck, points out: 'The quality of a children's bed shows in the details: the precision of component fit, the smoothness of edges and the quality of surface finishing. These are the elements that determine both safety and durability over the years.'
